Day 2 – Tuesday 1/8 – Clean out the Closets

Day 2 – Tuesday 1/8 – Clean out the Closets

        – Time to search your soul and allow Holy Spirit to clean the dark corners

Psalms 139:23-24

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties;  24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.

If you have ever moved from one house to another you have most likely felt the pain of opening that certain closet door to begin packing and found years of piled treasures (read “useless junk”) piled in the back of the closet just waiting for the right time to be used. I once assisted a retired couple move their household of belongings only to find out that we had transported several very heavy boxes of outdated junk mail which had accumulated over several years. Junk which was useless, heavy, worthless, and a hindrance to the real task at hand.

OK – I am just going to say this right up front, today may be a tough day for you.

First off, by today you will most likely be really missing that which you are fasting in order to draw closer to God. I wish I could tell you that it will get so much better in a day or two, but That has never been my reality. What I have found to be true is that with each passing day without solid food I find that I have to ramp up the fight between my Spirit-man and my contrary flesh-man. It is in this struggle we find explanations and instructions from the Apostles, like Paul, who teach us to, “crucify the flesh daily.” I just have to say, I’m not a great fan of self inflicted pain! But that is the mindset which is required for you to press on into the deeper things of God.

Today I present two verses from Psalm 139 which expresses the next step of this spiritual journey you have found yourself on. Once again there are two concepts to meditate upon. The first is t ask God to search your heart in order to find the things which are in conflict with His ways. We all have thoughts, hurts, sins, ideas, grudges, flaws or weaknesses which have set us in opposition to the ways of God. Some of these we struggle with and continually try to suppress. Others of these we we embrace even knowing they are wrong, but we have come to the point where have justified them in our minds.

It is at this point that the second of these verses come into play, namely – If there is wickedness, or things which stand in opposition to God, in our lives – ask God to set you on the road to recovery from error and onto the pathway of truth, righteousness and holiness, which the Word says without this no one will ever see God.

Yes – today is a day to throw the closet doors wide open within your heart and allow a cleansing to take place. The Bible tells us that if we ask properly we will receive. Since it is within the will of God for us to be at perfect peace and harmony with Him then we can be sure that this cleansing process is His will. That said, if we ask, it will happen! It is now time to stop reading and start asking! – Go clean out the closets!
