Go Forward – Fast 2016 – Day 19

Day 19 – Complete Deliverance – Exodus 14:26-28

26 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may come back upon the Egyptians, on their chariots, and on their horsemen.”

27 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and when the morning appeared, the sea returned to its full depth, while the Egyptians were fleeing into it. So the Lord overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.

28 Then the waters returned and covered the chariots, the horsemen, and all the army of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them. Not so much as one of them remained.

It is time to get out the carving knife. What? Let me explain. The staff or rod that Moses is carrying is not just any old stick found lying on the ground. Shepherds (remember Moses was herding sheep for his father-in-law when this whole Exodus adventure began) would carefully select a staff to help steady themselves while walking on rough terrain and to reach out and gently guide the sheep herd along the way. Every good shepherd had a great staff. In the countless hours of boredom that accompanies the herding of sheep they would typically take their staff and carve into the sides signs and symbols of the adventures they had experienced along the way. When they would get together they could show the carvings and tell the stories of great exploits.

Well, here is a carving for Moses’ staff. As the Israelites reach the safety of the opposite bank of the Red Sea they looked back only to see the Egyptians in hot pursuit. That is when they were blessed to see the absolute and complete deliverance from the enemy in grand fashion. As the sea came crashing down upon the Egyptian army this chapter of their saga was completed. The Bible specifically records that they were all gone.

You have made it to day 19 of our fast. You have already been through the hard part and it is now time for you to see the complete deliverance of the Lord in your own life. We started by taking time to repent and clean ourselves from the sins which so easily slow us down. But we are looking at something quite bigger than a simple act of forgiveness. We are looking for complete deliverance from those things which haunt us in the night hours. Partial deliverance is not acceptable here, only complete deliverance will do.

Be bold, be brave, and be full of faith. Be courageous enough to stand still and see the complete work that God is doing in your life.
